In my last article, I talked about how you can get the most out of your workouts. While exercising is an important step in staying healthy, it is not the only factor in reaching your fitness goals. Being healthy is a lifestyle choice. This means that there are factors that affect your ability to reach your fitness goals that have nothing to do with the gym. At BDx Fitness, we take these factors into account when planning your workouts and helping you reach your goals. Here, you can learn a little more about these contributing factors that go on outside of the gym.

Health Outside of the Gym

  • Stress. Stress manifests itself in different ways. It can take a toll on the body. Also, it can make it difficult for you to reach your full potential in the gym. It can make you feel like you don’t have much energy. Or, it might encourage you to partake in unhealthy habits, such as eating junk food, drinking alcohol, and more. Stress can also weaken your immune system and affect your sleeping patterns. If you are feeling stressed out in your personal or professional life, you need to determine how this is affecting your ability to stay healthy.
  • Sleep. A good night’s sleep is important if you are trying to get or stay healthy. Sleep helps your muscles heal after a difficult workout. A proper night’s sleep can also give you more energy to help you perform at your best while you are in the gym. If you are having difficulty sleeping due to issues such as stress, it could affect your general health. If you don’t normally get a full night’s sleep, consider sleeping a few more hours per night and see how you feel. This could help you reach your fitness goals.
  • Nutrition. Other than getting active, one of the best ways to stay healthy is by eating the right types of food. Making sure that you are eating the right foods and the right amount of food given your exercise level can make a huge different in the results that you see from your workouts.
  • Genetics. Every person’s body is different. You might have a friend who gets by on 5 hours of sleep per night. Your sister might be able to eat whatever she wants and still look great. But, it is important to understand your own body, and what it needs. Once you figure this out, it will be easier to listen to your body and do what is right for you.
