Now that summer is here, the weather is finally nice and vacation months are in full swing. If you have a vacation coming up, you are probably excited by the opportunity to take a break from your hectic routine. Right now, laying on a beach somewhere with a good book and a cocktail sounds pretty good. But, as your relaxing vacation approaches, you might be worried about how your healthy lifestyle will fare after a week of heavy foods, late nights, and no scheduled workouts. In this article, I will talk about some ways that you can enjoy your summer vacation without derailing your fitness plan.

Plan an Active Vacation

There are many different types of vacations that you might have with your family or friends. Some people like to have a relaxing vacation where they can just unwind at a spa or sit on a beach. Other people like more active and exciting vacations. Consider planning a vacation where you can do a lot of fun outdoor activities. Or, find a city where you can walk from attraction to attraction. Planning a vacation where you can do a lot of different activities will give you the opportunity to stay fit while on vacation.

Take Advantage of a Hotel Gym or Create Your Own Workouts

It can be nice to spend some time on your own doing something that is familiar to you when you are in a new place. Take advantage of your hotel’s gym if they have one. You can even book a hotel that has a free gym for guests to make sure that you have access to basic weights. While the variety of the equipment might not be as good as it is at home, it can be exciting to create a workout for yourself based on the equipment that is available to you. This can also be an opportunity to work out with a family member that you don’t normally go to the gym with. A half hour session for a few days while you are on vacation can be beneficial in keeping you fit.

If you don’t have access to a gym while you are on vacation, you can create your own quick workout. You can do some bodyweight exercises, practice yoga, or go for a run. These are quick and cheap options to keep you active while you are on vacation.


You don’t need a structured workout to stay active and fit while on vacation. A trip is the perfect opportunity to play with your kids or do something adventurous. Consider going swimming, snorkeling, hiking, biking, and more. You can also play a sport with your kids, such as beach volleyball, frisbee, or soccer.

Take the Scenic Route

Going somewhere new means that you might not have a car with you. This can be a great opportunity to use alternate modes of transportation that are healthier. Consider walking or biking to your destinations instead of getting a taxi. There are many ways to do your sightseeing on foot and stay healthy at the same time.
